Section 1.4 Key terms summary

While the above was a whistle stop tour of some key terms, this should start you thinking about these concepts. For a deeper understanding, consult the further reading at the end of this chapter. For now, to progress, be sure that you are confident to know about:
  • Spatial objects - what they are and how they are represented,
  • Attributes - the bits of information that belong to your spatial objects,
  • Maps and projections - especially what geographic versus projected coordinates mean, and why it’s important that you know what CRS your data have.
