Section 7.13 Checklist

When running correlations, have you:
  • Checked which variables are numeric and suitable for correlation
  • Graphed your variables using scatterplots to visualize relationships
  • Confirmed the relationships appear linear?
  • Addressed any missing values or extreme outliers
  • Selected the appropriate type of correlation (Pearson, Spearman, or Point-Biserial)
  • Ran correlation analyses and interpreted both the direction and strength of r
  • Created a correlation matrix if working with multiple variables
  • Computed RΒ² values to describe shared variance when appropriate
  • Ran a partial correlation if controlling for a third variable was relevant
